Sick or infectious children exclusion policy
I know how it is important for you to have reliable childcare and this is a high priority for me. However, there will be times when it is not possible for me to care for your child without compromising the health or well being of others.
If your child is unwell then they will be better cared for in their own home. I am happy to care for children with minor coughs and colds but cannot care for children who are very unwell, infectious or running a high temperature as I have to consider the well being of all the children in my care.
If I contract a contagious condition this could result in you being inconvenienced at a later date.
If your child has suffered with diarrhoea or sickness within the last forty-eight hours please keep them at home.
Coronavirus.
I and members of my household are fully vaccinated and have access to testing.
I am constantly reviewing our covid policy and refer to latest government guidance.
Although covid restrictions have lifted for many, the government guidance for the Early Years states that Childminders should continue to close if we or anyone from our household tests positive. We will therefore take reasonable precautions and ask that children continue not attend if they or a member of their household tests positive for covid.
I refer to

I also refer to ‘The NHS Information website’ for details. See Infectious Illnesses in Children, Pregnancy and Baby Guide.

Both are very informative.
If your child becomes ill whilst in my care, I will make them as comfortable as possible, while trying my best to prevent cross-infection to the other children.
I will contact you immediately to discuss their condition and continue to care for your child until you arrive to take your child home.
I am happy to administer medication with your written permission - please see my Medicine Policy.
Keep them informed of the child’s condition until they can be collected.
*Advise other parents.
* Refer to NHS online for information on infectious diseases and incubation periods.
If I am unable to work I will let you know as soon as possible. If a member of my household is not well I will contact you, inform you of the illness/symptoms and if I am able to work.
If a member of my family is not well I will contact you, inform you of the illness/symptoms and if I am able to work.
I endeavour to ensure that all children are protected against sickness and infectious illness whilst in my care and I will:
*Ensure that all parents/carers know and accept the procedures.
*Ensure I have obtained prior consent from the parent/carer for emergency medical treatment.
*Obtain written consent to administer first aid.
*Obtain written consent to administer medication brought to the setting by the parent. Doses will be noted and signed for each day to minimise the risk of overdosing for example.
Please phone and advise me if you are keeping your child at home, as soon as possible. Please update me, if necessary, on the nature of your child’s illness, as I may need to advise other families if their child has been expose to infection. Please also let me know when your child expected to return.
* I ask parents to agree to these policies in my contracts.
