What is a childminder?
I am sometimes asked to explain what a childminding setting is.
Children are cared for in a childminder's own home. We are registered with and inspected by Ofsted. We are uniquely placed to offer children a home-from-home childcare setting. We look after small groups of children of different ages and from different families. We are also well placed to provide continuity of care, from just 4 months, through the toddler years, preschool, to wrap around school and holiday care.
Like other childcare providers, childminders are guided by the Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework 2021 and the Development Matters Non-statutory curriculum guidance for the early years foundation stage. July 2021.
Childminders and anyone living in their household over 16 must under go police checks. They must have public liability insurance. They must undertake a paediatric first aid course every three years. Many childminders will, like myself, have Early Years qualifications and commit to continuous professional development. They also bring a wealth of experience and dedication.
We help your child become familiar with the setting and the wider world.
We are uniquely placed to offer a settled relationship for your child.
We are able to ensure that every child’s learning and care is tailored for their individual needs.
We are able to build strong relationship with you and your child.
We seek to engage and support parents and/or carers in guiding their child’s development at home.
We can help families engage with more specialist support if appropriate.
We aim to develop an environment which enables children to develop their personalities, talents and abilities irrespective of ethnicity, culture or religion, home language, family background, learning difficulties, disabilities or gender. These principles are central to my ethos.
